Say Goodbye to Sagging Jowls with Dermal Fillers

Are you self-conscious about loose, sagging skin under your chin and jawline? Dermal fillers can help address jowls and restore a more youthful and defined jawline contour.

What are Dermal Fillers for Jowls?

The tissues and muscles in our face begin to weaken and loosen with age. This loss of elasticity and volume contributes to the development of jowls – loose, hanging skin below the jawline that makes the face appear thin and gaunt. Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid gel injections to replace lost volume in the jawline and lift sagging jowls. By filling out the deflated lower face, dermal fillers visibly tighten and recontour the jawline for a toned, sculpted look.

Jowl Filler: Step-by-Step Process

  1. I will examine your facial structure to determine if you are a good candidate for jowl fillers.
  2. For your comfort, I offer a topical numbing cream containing lidocaine. This is applied 30 minutes before injections to desensitize the skin.
  3. Using a thin needle, I will carefully inject gel filler into the prejowl sulcus and along the jawline in thin layers. I strategically augment these areas to define your facial contours.
  4. As I inject, I apply light massaging motions to shape and position the filler accordingly. Once completed, massage further enhances the reshaped contours.
  5. Before you leave, I will have you make expressions so I can ensure balanced, natural-looking fullness is achieved on both sides of your face.
  6. I will provide instructions like avoiding exercise and massaging the area. Some soreness, swelling, and bruising may occur but resolve within a few days.

Touch-up injections after 6-12 months can help maintain optimal jowl definition. Most see gradual but noticeable improvements within 1-2 weeks as swelling subsides.

Post-Treatment Experience

After treatment, most swelling is minimal and resolves quickly. Over-the-counter pain medication addresses any minor discomfort I may experience. Redness can persist for up to a few days.

Stiffness, tightness, or tenderness when turning the head or moving the jaw are common side effects that usually disappear within a couple of days. I avoid strenuous activities until any soreness subsides.

With proper post-procedure instructions, most patients resume regular activities right away while allowing time for facial movement and contouring to stabilize. Makeup can cover any remaining redness or swelling.

Are Dermal Fillers for Jowls Safe?

When administered by a licensed, experienced provider like myself, dermal fillers are a very safe and minimally invasive option for jowl rejuvenation. As with any injection procedure, risks include bruising, redness, swelling, and soreness. Very rarely, infection or an allergic reaction may occur.

Are Dermal Fillers for Lips Safe?

When administered properly by a qualified provider, lip fillers pose minimal risk. Our clinicians undergo extensive training to optimize safety. Possible considerations include:

  • Transient bruising, swelling, and lumps are normal, but see us if severe.
  • Allergic reactions are rare but disclose your full medical history.
  • Ensure your injector is board-certified for proper hygiene and sterilization practices.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Good candidates for dermal fillers for jowls include those who have slight to moderate jowl fullness but without significant loose skin folds. Individuals with reasonable expectations of modest yet noticeable improvement are ideal. Consultations with me determine if your skin quality, structure, and volume loss are appropriately addressed through fillers.
